 Property Master Plan

At a called Congregational Meeting at 10:00 am on July 18, 2010, the Session will move
• the adoption of the Master Plan;
• the authorization of a capital campaign;
• the construction of as much of the Master Plan as funds and pledges allow; and,
• the election of the members of the Building Committee.

If approved, the Building Committee will begin the implementation of the Master Plan.

Why is this necessary?

In answering this question, several years ago, Session developed a document called the “Defining Vision Statement.” It includes these words: “God isn’t done with us yet. Our best years are ahead, not behind.”

In order to fulfill our ministry as a “Vital, Welcoming Community of Faith, rooted and established in love, living out our mission – to know, proclaim, and serve Jesus Christ” we need to invest in our property.

Our facilities have served us well for many years, but they are in need of a major overhaul. In terms of the five purposes of the Church:
• Our Worship space must be warm and welcoming;
• Our Evangelism requires that we have room for those we will invite;
• Our Fellowship halls must be large enough to accommodate all of us;
• Our Discipleship resource areas must be inviting, and suitable for all ages;
• Our Mission, both at home and away, needs adequate space.

The congregation has, on four separate occasions, been queried regarding long-term infrastructure needs for the existing church location. The following themes recur with each congregational survey:
• Lack of accessibility.
• No “main” entrance.
• Crowded classrooms. Poor multifunctional use of the space we have.
• Insufficient public space for large church programs.
• Inclement weather “people-delivery”.
• Significant Breezeway renovation.

In addition, significant renovation is required of facilities not designed to last for 50 years. We also have grandfathered code violations which need to be addressed, and ongoing foundation issues.

So, what is being proposed?

Session has worked with Gerald Tackett, of Slattery Tackett, architects, to produce a Master Plan. It includes:
• Development of a Youth barn;
• Replacement of the Activity Hall with a multi-purpose Fellowship Hall, including a small basketball court, a stage, restrooms, and storage;
• Construction of a porte-cochere (covered entrance);
• Redevelopment of existing rooms; relocation of library; nursery upgrade, etc.;
• Reversal and extension of the sanctuary, creation of a large gathering area;
• Early Childhood center and playground.

Session has recommended that redevelopment should proceed incrementally, as funds and pledges become available.

We do not anticipate being able to do everything at once, since total costs are close to $3.7 million. But the Master Plan does give us a roadmap for the redevelopment of our property.

How much will it cost?

The architect has provided the following estimates.
