In 1945 in the newly incorporated city of Lake Jackson, a group of families began meeting in various locations for worship. In 1946, with 36 charter members, the First Presbyterian Church was organized. The first worship service in their new home was held in the almost-finished building at 102 Yaupon in November of that year. In 1952 an addition to that original structure included a fellowship hall and additional classrooms. More classrooms were added seven years later, and in 1963 a new sanctuary was added. As membership and activities increased, expansion continued with the addition of a new fellowship hall, a kitchen, offices and restrooms in 1986. In 1996 the church’s celebration of its 50th anniversary coincided with the dedication of another addition of classrooms and restrooms. Over the years the church has purchased land adjacent to and across the street from the church building for parking and has recently purchased land behind the church for further expansion of facilities as needed.
